Truth: a good personal injury lawyer will not just take any case. There are very specific criteria that must be met for every incident before a lawyer will take a client. For instance the client must have creditable story. The client must also prove that they are not trying to alter or manipulate the facts so that the story will swing in their favor. And a big sign for a personal injury lawyer to reject a case is if the client has unreasonable expectations.

Myth #2- Don’t cooperate with law enforcement until you have an attorney

Truth: this is something that TV plays up because it adds to the suspense of the show. In real life it is important that you respond and cooperate with all law enforcement and emergency staff that are there at the accident scene. If you don’t cooperate then you may actually hinder finding needed evidence to support your case. Law enforcement is there to help not to hinder the law progress.

Myth #3- If it is a case of personal injury try to resolve the issue without an attorney

Truth: Don’t ever agree to a settlement or any terms that may go along with it without speaking to your attorney. This can be potentially dangerous and you may actually be taken advantage of even further. Your attorney will know the best way to proceed in what every situation you are in and help you in sure that a fair and reasonable settlement is reached that is both legally correct and in your best interest.

Myth #4- Don’t worry about gathering information immediately after the accident.

Truth: The more information you gather at the scene the better off your case will be. It is important to keep all evidence such as torn or blood stained clothing, or the defective product. The more evidence the better your case, simple as that. Also if you can take pictures of the surrounding area, your injuries, the product, and any other damage caused. Gather as many names and contact information of witnesses that you can. They will prove to be invaluable to your case. It isn’t easy to track this stuff down after the fact and if your personal injury attorney has to do it after it will end up costing you more money.
